Matthew J. Lucht Memorial Scholarships awarded
Matthew Lucht, 3rd Kyu at Ash’s Karate had been a student of ours for four years. He was killed in the Manhattan Christian’s Drivers Ed vehicle accident in 2003. In memory of Matthew, a memorial scholarship was developed. We raffled hand-made quilted Christmas Tree skirts for three Christmases. Thanks to the generosity of Matthew’s family, friends and many others, we raised over $11,000. The scholarship was to be awarded to one or more of Matthew’s classmates at Manhattan Christian, who were to graduate in 2006. The selection process was very difficult. Four recipients were chosen, with each individual receiving $2500. Those scholarships were awarded in May of 2006.
