Instructors
Brian Ash, Roku Dan , Sensei Brian Ash began studying Isshinryu with Sensei John and Sensei Cindy Ingram in 1985. Brian had studied two previous styles of karate. From 1981 to 1982 Brian studied a freestyle type of fighting with a small amount of self-defense techniques. It did not have much of a traditional base, but it was a good experience for learning the basics of punching, kicking and footwork. From mid 1982 to mid 1983, Brian studied traditional Chinese Kempo. In the summer of 1983, Brian moved to New Port Richey, Florida. Being new to the area, it was difficult for him to find a karate school. He tried many introductory classes, but none seemed like the karate Brian was looking for. Brian continued to train on his own until May of 1985.
When glancing through the new yellow pages, Brian saw a small ad for Ingram’s Karate. After an enthusiastic phone conversation with Sensei Cindy, Brian went to observe one of their classes. He signed up immediately after watching that class. Brian started learning Isshinryu basics and training for a kickboxing career. He worked out five days a week. Brian feels very lucky to have met the Ingrams. Through them, he has had many great opportunities.
